Itinerary LCT01-1 :

Lalibela Trekking to Wedebye, Mt Abune Yosef and return to Lalibela - 3 days, 2 nights.

Day 2: Trek from Wedebye to Mt Abune Yousef

From Wedebye to our destination on Mount Abune Yousef [4260m]​1 is a 7 hour mounatin trek featuring more mesmerising panoramic scenery - too much is never enough! The pretty Ethiopian mountain village of Tigu Keble is our destination for the second night.

The options during the day include staying in the African Alpine area of Abune Yousef community conservation area, or go further afield to the top of Mt Abune Yousef for even more spectaculat views and the satisfying accomplishment of scaling one of Africa's 20 highest mountains.

Or, following a picnic lunch, take a short trek to other viewpoints for views of the Sekota mountain chain.

There might even be opportunities to see more Ghelada baboons, and maybe the rare and endagered Ethiopian Wolf [Abyssinian wolf, Simien fox, Simien jackal, Ethiopian jackal, red fox, red jackal, Abyssinian dog and cuberow] [see photos - Esayas' distant photo shows how elusive this animal is], numerous birds species and and other fauna and flora of the area. We then head to our final destination for the day - Tigu Keble.

At night, we sit around absorbing the ambience and warmth of the open fire under an endless Ethiopian night sky and wonder what the first Hominins, such "Lucy"2 [or Dinkinesh, which means "you are marvelous" in Amharic] who are thought to have roamed the Ethiopian land might have seen in the sparkling cosmos above.

You wil be encouraged to get up and show what you learned from the previous night's dancing exhibition; our staff might even join you, whilst enjoying traditional music.
