7-Days Lemosho Route Climbing
The Lemosho route is the most scenic and longest route on Mount Kilimanjaro, the African's tallest mountain and the world's highest free-standing mountain. It takes 7 to 9 days to climb, with a full schedule that includes a 7km hike to Mti Mkubwa, Shira 1, and Shira 2. The climb takes approximately 10-11 hours, passing through heather and moorland zones, reaching Shira 1 campsite, Shira Cathedral, and Shira Plateau. The route also includes a 10km hike to Barranco, where you will climb through the Lava Tower and descend to Barranco Camp. The next day, you will hike 5km to Karanga Camp, where you will climb the Barranco Wall and continue through the Karanga Valley.
The final day is a 4km hike to Barafu, where you will rest and prepare for the summit attempt. The summit day involves climbing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, and then descend to Mweka Camp. The summit attempt starts at midnight and takes 16 hours to complete. Later, you will continue your descent through the rainforest to Mweka Camp. You will receive your summit certificates and be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved rest. In summary, the Lemosho route is a feasible option for experienced climbers, but it is recommended to take more time for those who have never been to high altitudes before.
