7-Days Umbwe Route Kilimanjaro Climbing
The Umbwe Route Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing offers a 7-day adventure that begins at the Umbwe Gate and ends at the Western Breach Approach. The route merges with the Lemosho Route and Machame Route, allowing for a challenging ascent through dense rainforest. The journey begins with a briefing from a professional guide and an hour-long drive to the Umbwe Village. The ascent continues through dense rainforest, with giant fig and rubber trees making for good footholds.
The journey then moves to Barranco Camp, where the porters prepare equipment and supplies. The hike continues through dense rainforest, passing through Giant Erica and Heathland terrain, and into semi-desert terrain. The camp is set up by porters who boil drinking and washing water before serving dinner.
The day ends with acclimatization at Barranco Camp, where the campers spend two nights exploring and taking in the stunning views of Mawenzi's towering spires. The next day, the group heads east, crossing multiple ridges and valleys, and joining the Mweka Route. They continue up the ridge for an hour to reach Barafu Hut.
The final day involves hiking 6 hours through thick scree to reach Stella Point, where they join up with the last bit of the Marangu Route. After a 3-hour descent down sliding scree, they return to Barafu for a rest and collect their gear. The group then descends to Mweka Gate, where they receive their summit certificates. If the road is too muddy, they continue their hike to Mweka Village, where they enjoy a hot lunch before being driven back to Moshi/Arusha.
